Charity Care Policy

Wyoming Medical Center prides itself in being a responsible member of this community.  Our commitment to improving the health of our community means ensuring that everyone has access to quality medical care.  Our Charity Care Program is available to assist with the financial needs of eligible persons who have limited ability to pay for  medically necessary services.

For more information about Charity Care and to apply, please call 307-577-2421 or 1-877-962-7243.

Who qualifies for charity care?
When a patient cannot comply with any of the available payment options due to
financial distress, a financial counselor may offer the financial charity care assistance program.  This is offered as a last resort option; all other avenues of payment must be pursued first.  The counselor will obtain up-front information justifying that this is the program best suited for the patient in resolving hospital accounts.

What is the process to apply for charity care?
At the patient’s request, a patient is given a Charity application and check list from a financial counselor. A credit report on the applicant will be obtained. The patient will be given a 21-day time limit to ensure the information is returned in a timely manner.

The applicant must complete the application thoroughly and provide any and all information from the checklist that pertains to his/her situation.

The applicant will be expected to exhaust all other payment sources as a condition for approval.  For example, you may be eligible for Medicaid or Medicare.  Therefore, you will be required to apply for those programs before seeking charity care.

In what instances will an application be automatically denied?
In the event the application is not returned in 21 days, is incomplete or contains false information, the applicant will automatically be denied.

Additionally, should WMC determine that a false application was submitted, or pertinent information withheld after a determination had been made and a write-off completed, WMC reserves the right to restore the account to its full amount and demand payment from the applicant.

If I am accepted to receive Charity Care, will I have to re-apply in the future?
Because your financial situation may change, you will have to re-apply each time you wish to receive Charity Care.

If I am accepted to receive Charity Care, does that mean my bill will be completely forgiven?
No.  Charity Care evaluates your ability to pay with which you will share the responsibility.

Once I apply for Charity Care, is the information shared with my doctor?
No.  The information is for the sole use of Wyoming Medical Center and will not be shared with other providers.
