Hospital Revamps Policy to Help More Patients Pay for Care 2 July 2008

Casper – July 2, 2008 – High gas prices are putting a pinch on nearly everyone’s pocketbook. Some people are forced to take a hard look at their spending and find ways to make cuts. In these more challenging economic times, Wyoming Medical Center wants to make sure patients are getting the healthcare they need, regardless of their ability to pay. That’s why the hospital has revamped and improved its Charity Care policy.

"We recognized there was a portion of our patient population that couldn’t pay for their hospital charges, but they either weren’t applying for help or didn’t qualify under our old policy. We’ve relaxed our income requirements and we believe it will provide relief for those who are truly in need," says Nancy Brandt, Chief Financial Officer, WMC.

Under the new policy, consideration will be given to those people whose income is up to 275% of the federal poverty level. The level of debt forgiveness will be based on a sliding scale. The application process has also become more user friendly, going from five pages to just one.

The policy went through a lengthy approval process from internal committees to the WMC Board of Directors, the Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees and the Natrona County Commission. It went into effect July 1, 2008.

55 Years of Caring and Service 29 May 2008

Over the past five decades the volunteers that make up the Auxiliary have given thousands upon thousands of hours to the patients, visitors, and employees of the hospital.  Their work and dedication is invaluable to the community and Wyoming Medical Center.

Organized in May 1953, the Auxiliary now boasts close to 200 members who donate their time to more than 20 areas of the hospital.  Our volunteers can be seen delivering flowers to our patients, escorting patients and visitors, working in the gift shop, providing directions at information desks, and working on fundraising projects, community events, and health fairs.

The Auxiliary has also given out thousands of dollars in scholarships for employees who wish to further their education.  That money comes straight from gift shop sales.

Join us in the South Link as we will celebrate the 55th Anniversary on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at 1:00 pm.
